5 things you must consider before buying a standing desk online

1. Stability

Stability is the single most important factor for a sit-to-stand desk. A wobbly desk distracts and reduces productivity. Look for:

• Net weight: A stable 1200mm desk should weigh around 57kg or more. Beware frames advertised at 50kg or lower.
• Leg column size: Choose legs at least 80mm x 50mm for a solid foundation. If a supplier does not publish leg dimensions, treat with caution.

2. Electronics

Reliable electronics ensure smooth height adjustment and long service life. Key features to check:

• 100% ageing/tested and auto-fault detection
• Surge immunity and ESD protection
• Electronics warranty: seek a minimum 5-year warranty specifically covering motors and control electronics

3. Weight capacity

Weight capacity affects both functionality and motor life. Low to mid-range desks commonly rate about 70kg. For long-term reliability choose a model rated at least 100kg.

4. Adjustment height range

Standard ranges are often 720mm to 1200mm, which suits most people. If you are shorter, taller or planning use by children, check the extremes. A versatile range is about 645mm to 1255mm (including worktop).

5. Warranty

Many mid-range desks offer only 1–2 years on electronics. Prefer models with 5–10 year coverage and confirm the electronic components are included.
