5 things to consider before buying a standing desk online

1 Stability

Stability matters most for a sit to stand desk. Look for:

• Net weight: aim for at least 57 kg for a 1200 mm desk — anything 50 kg or less is likely low quality
• Leg column size: minimum 80 mm x 50 mm recommended; larger columns give a firmer foundation

2 Electronics

Reliable electronics ensure smooth, repeatable height adjustments. Key features to check:

• Completed ageing tests and auto fault detection
• Surge immunity and ESD protection
• Electronics warranty: choose a model with a minimum 5 year warranty on electronic components

3 Weight capacity

Weight rating indicates motor durability. Avoid low to mid range motors rated around 70 kg. Aim for a minimum 100 kg rating; the Agile+ provides a 160 kg rating.

4 Adjustment height range

Consider the full range to suit your height or use case. Typical ranges are 720 mm to 1200 mm, which may not suit shorter or taller users. A good range covers approximately 645 mm to 1255 mm; Agile+ adjusts 645 mm to 1285 mm including worktop.

5 Warranty

Look for extended warranties. Many mid-range desks only offer 1 to 2 year coverage on electronics. Prefer desks with 5 to 10 year guarantees on electronics and frame. Agile+ includes a 10 year warranty.
